Maia Powell is a first year PhD student in the Applied Mathematics department. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematical Sciences with a concentration in computer science and a minor in sociology. Maia is interested in data science with social context and/or influence and is being advised by Dr. Arnold Kim in the Applied Mathematics department. Currently, she is researching the underlying dynamics of various data sets as related to linguistics in an effort to speak about the evolution of certain types of language. When she isn’t doing math for fun, she likes to watch crime shows and/or look at pictures of dachshunds on the internet.
