Bio:
Emilio Lobato is a graduate student in the Cognitive and Information Sciences department. His advisor is Dr. Colin Holbrook. Before arriving at UC Merced, he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and an M.S. in Cognitive and Behavioral Science from Illinois State University. Broadly, his background is in social cognition with two major research foci. One focus is on human-robot interaction, examining how to develop socially intelligent artificial agents to facilitate successful interactions between humans and robots across different operational environments. The other major focus is on how people develop, maintain, defend, and revise their beliefs about reality, ranging from beliefs about what is scientifically true to beliefs about conspiracy theories to beliefs about religion.
